
This is a speech by Dr Ahmad Mattar, then Minister for the Environment at Pre-U seminar in 1990 on the importance of implementing measures to maintain a liveable environment in Singapore. He warns that Singaporeans should not be complacent and play their part by changing lifestyles or habits if needed for a green environment. The speech also notes the initiatives taken by the Ministry at the time:
- Formed Ministry of Environment to implement policies and infrastructure for the environment
- Clean up Operations for Singapore River and Kallang Basin
- Planting of Greenery around Singapore
- Implementing “Clean and Green Week”
