This is a speech by Dr Ahmad Mattar, then Minister for the Environment at Pre-U seminar in 1990 on the importance of implementing measures to maintain a liveable environment in Singapore. He warns that Singaporeans should not be complacent and play their part by changing lifestyles or habits if needed for a green environment. The speech also notes the initiatives taken by the Ministry at the time:
  1. Formed Ministry of Environment to implement policies and infrastructure for the environment
  2. Clean up Operations for Singapore River and Kallang Basin
  3. Planting of Greenery around Singapore
  4. Implementing “Clean and Green Week”
